Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents, not only in Ontario and Canada but globally.
In Ontario, distracted driving results in tens of thousands of collisions annually. These collisions lead to thousands of injuries and fatalities. Specifically, one person is killed or injured every hour due to distracted driving collisions.
In Ontario, the rules around distracted driving are broad and designed to stop anything that takes your focus off the road.
Electronic Devices – Talking, texting, scrolling, or even quickly looking at your phone—handheld or mounted—counts. If you’re interacting with a device in any way while driving, you’re distracted.
In-Vehicle Adjustments – Changing the GPS, switching radio stations, or adjusting the heat or AC may seem minor, but if it takes your attention away from driving, it’s a distraction.
Handling Objects – Eating, drinking, or fumbling with loose items can be enough to make you lose control—and can lead to charges.
We can STOP this together through education
The WE CARE FOCUS resource safety guide is 30 plus years in the making and it is time to share it with the community because along with mental health, distracted driving is the #1 societal concern we have in our communities.
